Marketing Intern – Detroit Pistons (Auburn Hills, MI)

Palace Sports & Entertainment is looking for Marketing Interns for our three marketing departments. This internship runs year-round and is an UNPAID Internship.

CORPORATE MARKETING

This Internship will provide the opportunity to be involved in the entire sponsorship sales process, including development and fulfillment of contractual elements for corporate partners within most of the Palace Sports and Entertainment properties—Detroit Pistons (NBA), DTE Energy Music Theatre, Meadow Brook Music Festival, and the Palace of Auburn Hills. This is an UNPAID internship.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  1. Research prospective sponsors
  2. Provide support with proposal writing and design, including sponsorship recaps
  3. Execute weekly mailings
  4. Aid with sponsor parties, suites, and/or outings
  5. General administrative work and errands
  6. Assist with promotions, event execution, and sponsorship fulfillment
  7. Track and catalog event advertising

Qualifications

  1. A background in communications, journalism, marketing, advertising, and/or other sports management-related majors is preferred
  2. Must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, often including nights and weekends
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the Internet is critical
  4. Must have reliable transportation—mileage expenses incurred will be reimbursed

PALACE MARKETING

This Internship is responsible for booking and promoting the various events for all Palace Sports and Entertainment venues, including DTE Energy Music Theatre, Meadowbrook Music Festival & the Palace of Auburn Hills. This is an UNPAID internship.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  1. Preparing & updating Artist information
  2. Conduct Internet research
  3. Assisting in the preparation of press releases
  4. Assist the department with various marketing & promotional efforts

Qualifications

  1. Must major in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or other related field.
  2. 20-25 hours per week- during the day preferred and occasionally at events in the evenings and on weekends.
  3. .Must have a professional attitude, be organized, self motivated, and demonstrate initiative and communication skills
  4. Must have reliable transportation

BRAND MANAGEMENT/MARKETING

This Internship opportunity will focus on the specific target areas of Detroit Pistons grassroots marketing and business operations such as: marketing to target demographics, sales and promotions, sponsorship development, season tickets, fan base growth, and season ticket holder communication. Interns will work as a team to get the word out in fun, creative ways and develop programs for the Pistons organization. This Internship will give each Intern valuable experience and vast insight into the sports business world. This is an UNPAID internship.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  1. Interns will work both at The Palace and in the business world, including with sponsors, and season ticket holders
  2. Responsible for developing and executing new ideas
  3. Responsible for setting up, implementing and tearing down various Game Night Promotional Events
  4. Conduct research for potential promotional and marketing strategies
  5. Often responsible for assisting other departments with related events, such as Year Round Hoops, Community Relations and Sales.

Qualifications

  1. 20-30 hours per week
  2. Background in communications, journalism, marketing, sports management or business related majors
  3. Be enthusiastic about the opportunity to work in the sports industry
