Is the professional sports industry in your future career path? Here’s your chance to experience it first hand while interning at a dynamic organization. The Atlanta Hawks (NBA) and world-class entertainment venue, Philips Arena are looking for passionate team players to participate in our Summer 2012 course credit internship program. This program is designed to give top students real-life experience in the sports and entertainment industry in addition to providing educational and networking opportunities. Educational components include interactive workshops, executive speaker series and job shadow opportunities.

PROGRAM GUIDELINES

  • Course Credit Internships are open to college students only (junior, senior or graduate level)
  • Interns must receive academic credit toward graduation – no exceptions (students are responsible for providing documentation confirming academic credit for the internship)
  • No financial compensation is available
  • Interns are responsible for travel and housing arrangements
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends and holidays is required
  • Minimum of 12 weeks participation is required
  • Full-time and part-time opportunities are available (minimum of 20 hours per week required for part-time)
  • Interns must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.7

INTERNSHIP DEPARTMENT OVERVIEWS

CATEGORY: SALES AND MARKETING
DEPARTMENT: GROUP SALES AND SERVICE INTERN
STATUS: FULL-TIME

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Execute the fulfillment of our Atlanta Hawks 3.0 Student Club
  • Assist with back-end execution of PA Insider – our corporate ticket program that serves over 1000 companies
  • Participate in the planning and execution of various game day events
  • Assist Account Executives at sales events with prospecting for new business and overall sales
  • Develop and promote a group theme night for the 2011-2012 season under the direction of the Manager of Group Sales
  • Research trends around the NBA and other professional sports leagues
  • Assist with the management and growth of the group sales database
  • Assist sales staff with clerical duties and direct mail
  • Assist in the execution of company wide corporate ticket sales program

Qualifications

  • Marketing, Sports Administration, Communications or related business majors preferred

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Become an integral part of the Premium Seating department with the servicing of Philips Arena’s most premier accounts – our private suites, club seats and event-rental suites
  • Assist as needed on event nights at Philips Arena games and concerts
  • Assist in the coordination of special events for Premium Seating clients such as our golf tournament and open skate party
  • Assist Account Executives by creating hard marketing pieces and e-communication pieces for communication with prospects and current Premium Seating clients
  • Contribute to our annual renewal campaign of Club Seats and Suites
  • Conduct research on industry trends with other venues nationwide

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Work with Marketing staff to research, coordinate, execute and evaluate all Hawks Street Team and Basketball Development events
  • Assist with the creation of the Hawks Street Team schedule through extensive event research, including fairs, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, and radio partner events
  • Serve as point person at various Street Team events and continuously communicate to Street Team members and event contacts
  • Support marketing and promotion efforts for Street Team and Basketball Development through various internal and external avenues, including website, print and e-newsletter design
  • Following each event, create photo and video recaps using the footage captured at the events
  • Assist with administrative duties for Fan Development and Basketball Development, including database management, customer service efforts, and departmental organization and filing tasks

  • Assist in producing live events at Philips Arena for the Atlanta Hawks and other shows at the Arena
  • Compile and log game tapes and highlight meltdown reels

  • Full-time internships require availability for 35 – 40 hours per week
  • Part-time internships require a minimum of 20 hours per week
  • Academic course credit is a REQUIREMENT of the program. This is not a negotiable aspect of the program. Documentation from your educational institution is required prior to the internship beginning.
