New NBRPA CEO To Start Monday
September 28, 2011 – New York, NY - Incoming National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA) CEO Arnie D. Fielkow will begin his new position on Monday, October 3. Fielkow, who has served the past six years as Councilman at Large and President/Vice-President of the New Orleans City Council, will lead and oversee the administrative, business, marketing and promotional efforts of the NBRPA. Fielkow, together with staff, have spent the past several weeks in preparation for the new position, including visits to NBRPA chapters, sponsorship presentations, introductions to members and business partners, and initial planning for the 2012 NBA All-Star Weekend and the 2012 NBRPA Annual Conference.
The NBRPA, the official retired players association of the NBA, ABA and Harlem Globetrotters, is comprised of all former players from these organizations. This Association was founded in 1992 by basketball legends Oscar Robertson, Dave Bing, Dave DeBusschere, Dave Cowens and Archie Clark, and works in direct partnership with both the NBA and National Basketball Players Association.
“I am tremendously excited about starting this new leadership position and very much look forward to working with the outstanding members of the Association in growing and strengthening the NBRPA. The mission of our organization is to help transition our members from the playing court to a successful life after basketball, and we will actively further this objective through aggressive advocacy, marketing, education and promotion of the membership - the “Legends” of the great game of basketball! It is an honor and a privilege to work with this outstanding group of individuals, and I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting to work,” said Fielkow.
“I would again like to thank the citizens of New Orleans and my colleagues on the New Orleans City Council for all of their support and encouragement. New Orleans has been my family’s home for more than a decade and we will look forward to watching the city soar into the future as one of the world’s great cities,” added Fielkow.
The New Orleans City Council gave Fielkow a tremendous sendoff during his last City Council meeting before starting his new position with the NBRPA. To read their comments, click here. To see the video footage, click here.
