LA Chapter's golf event a success

On Monday, October 31, the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Basketball Retired Players Association hosted a First Annual Celebrity Golf Challenge at Mountain Gate Country Club with local charity “Cooking With Gabby®.” NBA legends Lucius Allen, Corey Blackwell, Reggie Theus, Jamaal Wilkes, Norman Nixon, Marques Johnson, Tracy Murray, Sam Williams, Michael Cage, David Cooke, Larry Sprigs, Don Ford, Rick Darnell, Darwin Cook, Joe Bryant, Mark Companaro, and Reggie Theus participated in the event.
This fundraising event is dedicated to raising sustainable funds to support Cooking With Gabby® programs aimed at reducing childhood obesity in at-risk youth in low-income communities nationwide. Cooking With Gabby® is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization founded in 2006 by Steven and Lisa Vasquez. Utilizing a unique E.A.T philosophy – Education, Activity and Total Health, Cooking With Gabby aims to educate children and their families on the benefits of healthy eating and encouraging active lifestyles through interactive workshops, cooking classes, and on-line/social media. This past year alone, Cooking With Gabby has directly benefited 2000 children and families from low-income communities throughout South and Metro Los Angeles.
Through the City of Los Angeles’ Summer Night Lights program, Cooking With Gabby provided children in low-income communities with fresh, healthy food items and educated them and their families about the benefits of healthy eating, regular exercise and ways to eat healthy on a budget.
