LEGENDS OF BASKETBALL TALK CAREERS AT 2017 LEGENDS WORLD SPORTS CONFERENCE

CHICAGO (August 8, 2017) – The National Basketball Retired Players Association will host the 2017 Legends World Sports Conference August 18-20 in Los Cabos, Mexico. This is the ninth edition of the annual retreat that brings legends of basketball together for a weekend of networking and learning tools needed to build a successful second career.

WNBA legend Tamika Catchings, Naismith Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman, two-time NBA All-Star Baron Davis and sportscaster Len Elmore highlight the legends leading discussions on a variety of topics including Women of Influence, Entrepreneurship and Broadcast. Founders of the NBRPA, Dave Bing and Archie Clark, along with board members and Hall of Famers Rick Barry and Spencer Haywood, will also lend their voices to the weekend’s events.

Jayson Williams, who cofounded the Rebound Institute with former NBA All-Star Charles Oakley, will address issues related to substance abuse, gambling and addiction in the Health & Wellness Summit.

The Conference is a cornerstone initiative of the NBRPA’s mission to provide a host of programs, services and benefits designed to help basketball players and their families successfully navigate life after the game.

Women of Influence
Moderator: Barbara Farris
Speakers: Tamika Catchings, Nancy Lieberman, Michelle Brooke-Marciniak, Kristin Beal
Description: This interactive panel discussion highlights women who have excelled in basketball, business and philanthropy. These dynamic women will discuss their experiences, achievements and strategies in leadership.

Entrepreneurial Summit presented by Wintrust
Moderator: Len Elmore
Speakers: Baron Davis, Quentin Richardson, Kevin Carr, Steve Nudelberg, Kristin Beal
Description: This discussion will teach attendees how to turn passion into a career, including how to create opportunities for investment, partnership and collaboration.

Broadcast Bootcamp
Speakers: Reel Media Group, Big Ten Network and Len Elmore
Description: In this three-part workshop, attendees will learn firsthand what it takes to excel in the broadcast booth and studio. Reel Media Group, Big Ten Network, and sportscaster Len Elmore will teach attendees the basics of broadcasting, play-by-play, and color commentary. Attendees will also get firsthand experience when they shoot their own one minute segment.

Health and Wellness Summit presented by AASP and Rebound Institute
Moderator: Kenny Gattison
Speakers: Jayson Williams, Dr. Brent Walker, Sean Nasiff
Description: This discussion will unpack the struggle with the transition out of basketball, including the emotional attachment to the game and coping with a change in identity post retirement. Furthermore, the discussion will address all issues related to an unbalance lifestyle including substance abuse, gambling addiction, and total body wellness.

Fundamentals of the Career Game presented by AthLife
Speaker: Jon Harris
Description: In this workshop, attendees will learn the fundamentals needed for anyone seeking career opportunities. This session will teach participants how to leverage skills learned as an athlete, network, and career fundamentals.

Health Screenings
Cardiac screenings and hearing testing is offered to all attendees. The screenings, provided annually to former players by the NBPA, are vital in early detection of heart and hearing issues.
