Memo from the ceo: FEEL THE EXCITEMENT

April 21, 2016

Exciting times are happening in the world of basketball.

While the Men’s NCAA Tournament was one of the most exciting in the tournament’s history, the Women’s NCAA Tournament made history when the University of Connecticut won their fourth consecutive championship.
Also, the WNBA just held their draft which featured many future superstars.
We’re also taking note of the growing presence of excellent women players in the League and among the Legends. We are proud to welcome Chasity Melvin as the 2016 Michael Justin Glenn Internship recipient.

This internship gives a select member the chance to work at our organization’s headquarters in Chicago where they get the opportunity to gain knowledge of sports administration and learn the inner-workings of the sports business industry.
While enjoying a stellar 12-year career in the WNBA, Chasity took it upon herself to utilize the opportunities that came with being in the WNBA to learn more about the business aspect of the sports world. She will undoubtedly bring her expertise to the NBRPA and help us foster stronger relationships with former WNBA players and athletes.

She’s helping to build excitement among our Legends, and this is a time of year when anticipation is building. Just as the NBA Finals are ahead, so is our 8th annual Legends World Sports Conference. Registration is now open.

This year the conference will take place from July 17-19 at the beautiful Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Our members and partners get the wonderful opportunity to learn, network and unite in community service as well as attend seminars to help them transition to life after professional play. The conference will review subjects such as technology, broadcasting, public speaking, health and wellness, wealth management, entrepreneurial business, coaching, careers in sports, career transition, continuing education, social media, philanthropic fundraising and more.

Plan ahead and enroll now at our website to register for this very valuable July conference.

The Board of Directors will be planning the year ahead with a May retreat in Miami. While a full business schedule awaits, the members will take time to do a major fundraising event for our Full Court Press program, so we can expand it to more American cities and programs in Israel, Cuba and Haiti.

Like I said, the excitement is building! I’m glad you are with us.
