NBRPA AND JANSSEN PHARMACEUTICALS ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP

February 14, 2017

CHICAGO – Janssen Pharmaceuticals (Janssen), a leading brand within the Johnson & Johnson family, and The National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA) today announced a partnership that will make Janssen the exclusive pharmaceutical partner of the association. Janssen brands such as Xarelto will be integrated into marketing and program initiatives across the NBRPA throughout its 25th Year Anniversary Celebration.

The NBRPA provides a strategic platform for Janssen to create initiatives and programming that communicate the importance of physical health and wellness. Specifically, Janssen aims to transform individual lives and fundamentally change the way diseases are managed, interpreted and prevented. Janssen’s Xarelto brand has an established presence within the basketball community through its ad campaign featuring the legendary Jerry West.

Janssen will kick-off its engagement with the NBRPA as the presenting sponsor of the All-Star Breakfast on February 18 at the Westin Canal Place in New Orleans, LA. The breakfast is co-hosted by Athletes in Action, and will honor former NBA Coach and GM Randy Pfund with the 2017 Jerry Colangelo Award, named in honor of the Basketball Hall of Famer and former CEO of the Phoenix Suns and current Chairman of USA Basketball. The award is given to someone who exemplifies being a professional both on and off the court by showing strong character, integrity, and leadership. Also honored will be 12-year NBA veteran Mike James with the 2017 Bobby Jones Award, named after former All-Star Bobby Jones, and is annually given to a current or former NBA player exhibiting exceptional integrity and service both on and off the court.

Both Jerry Colangelo and Bobby Jones will be on hand to present the awards to the honored recipients. Other special guests include Emcee Chris Brousard, Hall of Famers Shaquille O’Neal, Julius Erving and many others. The event will also include stories of faith, leadership and character from some of basketball's most influential people.

Additionally, Janssen will have a strong presence at the NBRPA’s Legends World Sports Conference, wherein hands on seminars and learning will occur on-site in Cabo San Lucas on a date to be determined.

With the support of Janssen Pharmaceuticals, NBRPA events like the All-Star Breakfast are made possible. Janssen Pharmaceuticals strives to provide access to effective and affordable medicines and related healthcare services to the people who need them and is proud to help present such a positive event. The NBRPA is excited to welcome Janssen to the NBRPA family and looks forward to working collaboratively for the benefit of all former players.
