NBRPA is going dancing this college postseason

March 13, 2013

It’s postseason tournament time in men’s college basketball and the National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA) – the only Association comprised of NBA, ABA and Harlem Globetrotters alumni – will be participating in the “Big Dance.” Not only will NBRPA Members be appearing at the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament and Final Four, but also the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 and SEC Men’s Basketball Tournaments. All appearances are part of the NBRPA’s “Book a Legend” initiative, designed to utilize former NBA, ABA and Harlem Globetrotters players as ambassadors to the game of basketball.

“We are excited to team with the NCAA and several major college conferences for men’s college basketball postseason tournaments this March and April,” said NBRPA President & CEO Arnie D. Fielkow. “Before becoming professional basketball players, the vast majority of our members starred at the college level and it’s only natural that they interact with fans and the community for these exciting postseason events.”

NBRPA Members will be participating in hospitality events for all of the aforementioned NCAA postseason tournaments. In addition, members will have additional philanthropic roles at both the Big Ten and Big 12 tournaments.

Members with Big Ten connections will participate in Chicago at both the March 13 Tip-Off Luncheon and the “Between Sessions” Reception on March 15. In addition, NBRPA Members from Big Ten colleges will visit Chicago area schools to share positive life messages. Meanwhile, members with Big 12 ties will speak to fans and interact with youth in Kansas City on March 15 as part of an NBRPA Success Series event tied into the Big 12 Men’s Tournament. The NBRPA hosts its Success Series throughout the year at venues across the country in order to spotlight positive stories and life lessons from members.

Following the conference tournaments, NBRPA Members will be making NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament appearances at games in Arlington, Texas, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Jose, Calif. and Washington, DC. These appearances by NBRPA Members will precede a host of hospitality appearances made by members at the Final Four in Atlanta April 6-8.
