Sean Rooks (1969-2016)

Sean Rooks (September 9, 1969 – June 7, 2016) has passed away. After a stellar career at the University of Arizona where he was named First Team All-Pac-10 his senior season, Rooks was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1992 NBA Draft. He went on to have a twelve-year career in the NBA, playing for the Mavericks, Timberwolves, Hawks, Lakers, Clippers, Hornets, and Magic. Following his playing career, Rooks embarked on a coaching career. He coached for three NBA D-League teams from 2007-2012 before joining the Phoenix Suns as a player developmental assistant. In 2014, he took a position with the Philadelphia 76ers as an assistant coach. Rooks leaves behind two children, a daughter, Khayla, and a son, Kameron, who is a member of the basketball team at the University of California, Berkeley.

The following is a statement from CEO Arnie Fielkow on behalf of the National Basketball Retired Players Association regarding the untimely passing of Sean Rooks:"On behalf of the entire NBRPA family, I was greatly saddened‎ to learn of the unexpected passing yesterday of former pro and collegiate great Sean Rooks. My family resides in Tucson and have been University of Arizona fans for many decades. Sean was a great player and, based on the accounts from so many people, even a better person. Our condolences go out to his entire family, including his children Kameron and Khayla, and his mother Deborah."
