Bill Sharman, ’72 Lakers Honored in New Documentary

Bill Sharman, the legendary coach of the 1971-1972 Los Angeles Lakers, was honored in Los Angeles Thursday night for the team’s accomplishments during that historic season.

33 STR8, the title of the documentary film chronicling the 71-72 Lakers, was unveiled at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. The film reminisces on the greatest winning streak in the history of professional sports, as the Lakers won 33 straight games en route to winning the NBA Championship.
Sharman, described as a “magical coach” by Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain, coached an historic amount of players on this championship team, including NBRPA members Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, and Gail Goodrich.

The documentary was produced jointly by Sharman’s widow Joyce Sharman, Elliott Haimoff of Afterburner Enterprises, and Jose Sanchez or Screaming Eagle Productions.

Special guests included NBRPA members Bill Rusell, Bill Walton, Byron Scott, Norm Nixon, Lucius Allen, and Jamaal Wilkes.
