The NBRPA strongly believes every member of our extended basketball family should have access to higher education, regardless of his or her financial status. To do its part in furthering this goal, the NBRPA has established the Dave DeBusschere Scholarship Fund to provide financial support to eligible NBRPA members, their spouses, their children and their grandchildren pursuing degrees in higher education.

Over 10 years, the Dave DeBusschere Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $1 million to qualifying families, and all eligible applicants receive a scholarship. To qualify, an active NBRPA member must have less than $200,000 of annual household income and complete an application no later than July 21, 2014. Additionally, the applicant must be enrolled in an institution of higher education and have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better to qualify.

The number and dollar amounts of scholarships to be awarded each year vary based on the number of eligible applicants as determined by the NBRPA Board of Directors.

The scholarship's namesake, Dave DeBusschere enjoyed a prolific career as an NBA player. Shortly after his passing in 2003, DeBusschere's children established this program under the NBRPA umbrella. As a player, DeBusschere dominated on the court for 12 seasons, earning two championship rings with the New York Knicks, eight NBA All-Star Game appearances and induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
