Legends Spotlight: Adonal Foyle

February 16, 2018

A 13-year veteran of the NBA, Adonal Foyle has seen it all. He has been out of the league for just over eight years and since the time he retired, has been involved in many business ventures. Adonal has always said, “Knowledge is about self-empowerment,” so he decided to pursue an MBA at Kaplan University through the NBRPA’s exclusive partnership deal. A two-year, full-time commitment, Adonal completed the program in December and now has the knowledge necessary to take on any challenges thrown his way.

Q: What got you to take advantage of this opportunity with Kaplan University?
A: “I think part of the transition for any athlete is trying to figure out what the next step is, what is the next destination? I wanted to have the foundational principles of business in place, so I went back to school with the intention of pushing myself as hard as I could. I think that Kaplan University presented a very unique opportunity to accomplish these goals.”

Q: What are your hopes for the future now that you have earned your degree through Kaplan University?
A: “I think more than anything else, the knowledge and skillset that I came out of my education with will be necessary regardless of the specific challenge that I decide to take on. I think the cool thing is that the knowledge won’t ever go away, it’s part of who I am forever. For me, it doesn’t really matter what direction I take, since I already have the skills in place to take on whatever challenges are presented my way. I am very excited to have this stepping stone to so many possibilities.”

Q: Would you recommend pursuing a degree with Kaplan University through this partnership program to other NBRPA members?
A: “I would absolutely recommend this program to other NBRPA members. I think the most important thing, however, is that if you aren’t truly committed and serious about learning and putting in the work, don’t do it. I think it is one of those things that, yes, it is rewarding and yes, it is a lot of work, but if you have no intention of putting in the level of work that is required, then you are not going to be as successful as someone who did. You must have the right mindset to attack a challenge like this and I can say from experience that it is tremendously rewarding when done right.”

Q: What was your favorite part about Kaplan University?
A: I think the awesome part about earning my degree with Kaplan University is that you have an opportunity to work with people in groups and be part of real-time simulations in the virtual classrooms. It is pretty cool to interact with so many people from all parts of the world, as well. Ultimately, I think it is the quality of the program and platform at Kaplan University that I was able to achieve so much success in the classroom and beyond.
