December 5, 2012

November 29 was truly a milestone day for the National Basketball Retired Players Association. With the 2013 Board of Directors – Thurl Bailey, Rick Barry, Otis Birdsong, Harvey Catchings, Bob Elliott, Steve Hayes, Spencer Haywood, LaRue Martin, Johnny Newman, Marvin Roberts and George Tinsley – holding meetings in the new Chicago offices alongside the NBA, the NBRPA announced a new four-year extension and expansion of its partnership with the NBA (CLICK HERE for full details). In addition, the NBRPA held its first public event in Chicago at Riva Restaurant on iconic Navy Pier and this “Lunch with Champions” -- sponsored by Wintrust Bank -- was a sellout and rousing success.

Lunch with Champions served as the NBRPA’s introduction to the business community and media in Chicago and featured championship insights from Bailey, Barry and Haywood to the standing-room-only crowd. Aside from the 2013 Board, NBRPA Members Mark Aguirre, Stephen Bardo, Kenny Battle, Roger Brown, Emmette Bryant, Jim Grandholm, Bob Love, Jack Marin, Jeff Sanders, Sam Vincent, Antoine Walker and Bill Wennington also attended the event.

Media coverage for the event was resounding and included CBS and FOX TV, ESPN Radio, the Chicago Sun-Times,,, Chicago Bulls Radio Network, Crain’s Business Journal, Athlete's Quarterly and the Getty Images Photo Wire (amongst others).
