This September, the Jerry Colangelo Basketball Hall of Fame Golf Classic returned to The Wigwam Arizona in Litchfield and was a major success. The fundraiser, presented by NIKE, aims to deliver the premium branding, hospitality and experiences for sponsors and participants that the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is renowned for. The tournament helps raise money for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, which Colangelo was selected to in 2004.

Over 30 former basketball players participated in the event including NBRPA members and leaders from the NBRPA Phoenix Chapter.

Voice America covered the event in partnership with Rebound Media and spoke to Jerry Colanegelo about the event as well as the importance of the NBRPA.

“I have a love of the game and passion for all the people who have been a part of the game,” he said. “It’s a family and it is important to take care of the family.”

NBRPA member Jamaal Wilkes was one of the many players who attended the fundraiser and noted that though he was not close with Colangelo during his playing days due to the fierce Lakers-Suns rivalry, events like these, with help from the NBRPA, gives him the chance to re-connect with his peers on a closer level.

“Jerry is such a giving person to the community,” said Wilkes. “I’m honored to be able to help and get to know him (Jerry) and a lot of the former players better.”

Aside from golf, the event also included a special Hall of Fame panel discussion, an auction, a Phoenix Suns panel, and a post-golf luncheon. The NBRPA looks forward to partnering and participating in future Jerry Colangelo Golf Classic fundraisers.
