Hall of Famer Artis Gilmore to serve as first guest for weekly Legends segment on NBA Opening Day, October 28

CHICAGO – The National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA), the only Association comprised of NBA, ABA, Harlem Globetrotters and WNBA alumni, is proud to announce the creation of a new, weekly Legends of Basketball segment on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Channels XM 86 and Sirius 207, for the 2014-15 NBA season. To help celebrate opening night of the NBA and the season tip-off match-up between the World Champion San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks, NBRPA Member and Hall of Famer Artis Gilmore – an All-Star with the Spurs – will help break down the start of the NBA season in the debut Legends segment on October 28 at 2:30 p.m. ET.

SiriusXM NBA Radio launched in December, 2013 and the NBRPA has worked closely with programming directors, producers and hosts to provide unprecedented access to former players for on-air segments. Past collaborations included on-site presence by SiriusXM NBA Radio at the 2014 NBA Legends Brunch at All-Star Weekend in New Orleans and at the 2014 Legends Fantasy Weekend at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. This new regular segment for the 2014-15 NBA season was a natural next step in the relationship.

“The NBRPA has enjoyed a strong relationship with SiriusXM NBA Radio since its inception just over a year ago,” said NBRPA President & CEO Arnie D. Fielkow. “Our Legends provide unique, one-of-a-kind perspectives on the game and their first-hand accounts of how NBA basketball has grown and evolved over the years will provide compelling on-air content for SiriusXM NBA Radio listeners each Tuesday during the 2014-15 NBA season.”

The NBRPA Legends segment will appear on SiriusXM NBA Radio’s “Off the Dribble” program each Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. The hosts for today’s launch segment are Jared Greenberg and Rick Fox. Aside from featuring a different NBRPA Legend each week during an on-air interview, the partnership with SiriusXM NBA Radio will feature reciprocating social media promotion and on-air plugs for key NBRPA initiatives and events.
