Phoenix chapter ‘Feeds the Children’

February 1, 2012

Feed The Children and The Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Phoenix joined forces with the Phoenix NBRPA chapter on November 2 to bring two tractor-trailers filled with enough food, essentials and personal care items to help 800 Arizona families.

NBRPA members that participated in the community event included Board of Directors President Bob Elliott, Vice President Danny Schayes (with wife Wendy), Fat Lever, Bernard Thompson, Bob Lanier, Jim Paxon, Mark West, Steve Colter, Dick Snyder and Alvin Adams.

"The feed the children organization and their sports partnerships program is a great asset not only to the sporting partners, but families in need and communities nationwide,” said Fat Lever, who served as President of the NBRPA’s Phoenix chapter before accepting a position with the Sacramento Kings. “My personal and special thanks to all of the Phoenix chapter members who volunteered their time, energy and support to the Phoenix families in need, and the Society of St. Vincent De Paul.

"There's no better feeling or rush you get from helping others when you can."

The distribution was the latest stop this year on Feed The Children’s Americans Feeding Americans Caravan. Including this event, the caravan has helped more than 300,000 families across the country since 2009 in cities that have been affected by the nation’s economic downturn. Each selected family will receive a 25-pound box of non-perishable food items, a 10-pound box of essentials and a box of Avon products.

“This was a great event bringing together the Phoenix chapter of the NBRPA with the Feed the Children non-profit organization,” Elliott said. “We’re very proud of our Phoenix chapter for putting together another positive community event for the NBRPA. Many thanks to the members of the Phoenix Chapter who attended and assisted with the event.”
