The NBRPA strongly believes every member of its extended basketball family should have access to higher education, regardless of his or her financial status. To do its part in further this goal, the NBRPA established the Dave DeBusschere Scholarship Fund more than a decade ago in honor of the late Dave DeBusschere, an NBA Champion, All-Star and NBRPA Founder.
The DeBusschere Fund provides financial support to eligible NBRPA members, their spouses, children and grandchildren in pursuit of degrees in higher education. The NBRPA has awarded members and their families more than $1.5 million in educational funds through the Dave DeBusschere Scholarship Fund and continues to raise money in support of this cornerstone initiative. In 2014 alone, the NBRPA awarded 37 scholarships of more than $3,000 a piece to its recipients. In addition, the DeBusschere Fund awards education grants to communities through the NBRPA Chapter program.
An NBA Hall-of-Famer and one of the NBA’s 50 Greatest Players of All-Time, Dave DeBusschere averaged 16.1 points and 11 rebounds per game, won two NBA Championships as a member of the New York Knicks and was named to eight All-Star teams. DeBusschere passed away in 2003 and is memorialized by the NBRPA through the Dave DeBusschere Scholarship Fund.
Applying process has now been closed and it will reopen May 2017.
